John Pienaar

John Pienaar

  • Drive Time Host Times Radio
  • Former BBC Political Journalist
  • Facilitator , Commentator, Host and Speaker

John Pienaar held the role of Deputy Political Editor at the BBC and hosted the weekly Westminster roundup show, "Pienaar's Politics," on Radio 5Live. With his extensive reporting background, he considered his mission to be navigating through the labyrinth of government messaging, a role he continues in his current position as the Drivetime Presenter at Times Radio. Since his early and sometimes controversial parliamentary sketches for The Independent, he has played the role of a guide and interpreter of the political ongoings within the Westminster community.

Before his nearly three-decade tenure at the BBC, John honed his skills at the South London Press, where he covered various local events, from street crime and domestic violence to issues like sex, drugs, and rock 'n' roll, happening right at his doorstep. He even took on the role of an Old Bailey Correspondent and ventured into writing an angling column, despite lacking first hand fishing experience.

John is a familiar face to television news audiences, having spent countless hours reporting from outside 10 Downing Street, often in the pouring rain. He was even invited to participate in a celebrity boxing show, though it was ultimately cancelled due to concerns about potential injuries. In his after-dinner speeches, John playfully explores the idea of what would occur if the public were to elect Members of Parliament through a reality TV program.

Testimonials

Really well received as our virtual conference facilitator.
We could not have asked for a better opening Keynote speaker, John very kindly gave us candid insight and personal opinion, which is exactly what I asked for. We could have devoted the entire morning to questions and the audience were still discussing the session over drinks that evening. What more could you wish for? Warm and sincere thanks!
John was superb at our event last week. He got the brief exactly right, hitting the sweet spot between political insight and entertainment.
