Sir Tony Robinson is an actor with a penchant for history, whether it's playing dim-witted Baldrick in the legendary BBC comedy series Blackadder, hosting Channel 4's popular archaeological dig series Time Team, or presenting TV documentaries on old railway lines. He has also played numerous serious roles in TV plays and dramatic works on stage. Tony is indeed an actor with many strings to his bow.

Tony performed in his first acting role at the age of 12, as a member of Fagin's gang in the original production of the musical Oliver!, including a stint as the Artful Dodger when the boy playing the role failed to turn up. His fine performance propelled him into the acting profession and he subsequently had roles in a number of West End shows, as well as appearing on film and also on television.

In addition to Blackadder and Time Team, other TV credits include The Worst Jobs In History, Tony Robinson Down Under, Tony Robinson's Time Walks and The Life Of The Midland & South Western Junction Railway.

Tony is also an award-winning writer of children's books, with titles such as The Worst Children's Jobs In History and Tony Robinson's Weird World Of Wonders. He was one of the lead actors for the British animated series Nellie The Elephant, based on a song of the same name, which ran from 1989 to 1991 and was shown on Children's ITV.

Tony is a champion of improved care for the elderly and, as such, was invited to give the Dimbleby Lecture about assisted dying on behalf of Terry Pratchett, making the acclaimed documentary, Me And My Mum, as well as taking part in the BBC's campaigning series, When I'm Sixty Five.

His is also a dedicated member of the Labour Party, having served on its National Executive Committee. He was awarded a Knighthood in 2013.
