Angela Barnes

Angela Barnes

  • Popular Stand-Up Comedian
  • Former Health & Social Care Worker
  • Awards Host & After Dinner Comedy

Angela Barnes swapped a career in health and social care for stand-up in 2010 and hasn’t looked back.

Within just a couple of years she had won the BBC New Comedy Award in 2011 and toured around the country with her stand-up shows. She returned to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2022 with her show, Hot Mess, which she also took on tour.

Angela has starred in BBC Two’s Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo, Richard Osman's House of Games, and Hypothetical on Dave. She is a firm favourite on BBC Radio 4, having featured on The Now Show and The News Quiz – including a recent stint as the host. She has also hosted BBC Radio 4 Extra’s Newsjack.

Angela co-hosts the less-than-serious popular podcast We Are History (Acast) with John O’Farrell . The two history nerds discuss, explain, and laugh at interesting and quirky episodes from the olden days.

Angela mixes warm autobiographical material with plenty of strong jokes. She is very confident in the way she attacks her one liners and punch lines, her easy going manner really draws audiences in. Angela is great fun and definitely one to watch.

Testimonials

Hi Sally,

Angela was terrific! I need to catch up with the client properly but the feedback has been wonderful. Angela was amazing to work with - so easy and took all changes to script and schedule in her stride. She was great with the clients too and stayed for a drink with them post show.

I would highly recommend her to all my other clients. So thank you for recommending her.
