Reggie Yates’ career has seen him move from fronting children's programming, to national radio to become an RTS award-winning documentary maker.
In the last five years, Reggie has become synonymous with critically acclaimed documentaries. His films include the BBC3 Extreme series including Reggie Yates: Extreme Russia, Extreme South Africa and Extreme UK, which are all available to a worldwide audience on Netflix. In 2016, Reggie was awarded Best Presenter for the critically acclaimed Extreme Russia at the Royal Television Society Awards, Best Factual Programme at the Edinburgh TV Festival, and Best Multi-channel Programme at the Broadcast Awards.
Reggie is an experienced and sort-after host and speaker. His versatility makes him indispensable on the events circuit and has led him to do all sorts of events with a range of top global brands including PWC, Soho House, WeWork and Mercedes.
Reggie has also had other forms of successful partnerships with global brands including Airbnb, HSBC, Honda, Walkers, and EBay.
In 2017, Reggie returned with a second series of The Insider for the BBC which included him spending a week in a toxic waste dump in Ghana, a week in a refugee camp in Syria and a week working as a guard at Guildford County Jail in North Carolina – the idea being that Reggie spends a week walking in someone else’s shoes to really understand their experience.
In 2017, Reggie also released his debut book Unseen: My Journey with Penguin Random House taking readers behind the scenes of his journey from TV presenter to documentary maker. Reggie is also a talented writer for film, his first short film Patriach aired on Channel 4 as part of their Random Acts season and another of his films, Shelter, aired on BBC iPlayer in September 2017. His second short film, DATE NIGHT starring Oscar nominee Daniel Kaluuya, won best UK Short at the London Independent Film Festival.
This year Reggie’s BBC Two documentary Grenfell Tower’s Hidden Victims will air in March. This poignant film will reveal the untold stories of some of the victims caught up in the devastating Grenfell Tower fire following the tragedy that occurred last year.
Reggie has relationships with Mind, The Tate and last year collaborated with Sheffield Doc Festival to create ‘Doc Dinner’ where filmmakers aged 18-25 were invited to join Reggie along with industry professionals from BBC, Channel 4, The Guardian and VICE for dinner and doc chats. This dinner aimed to help bridge the gap between the current generation and the new generation of those in the media to exchange tips on navigating the industry for new entrants.
