Mel Giedroyc is an English presenter and comedienne, best known for her work with Sue Perkins. The pair have co-hosted several series as "Mel and Sue", including Light Lunch for Channel 4, the chat show Mel and Sue for ITV and the hugely successful The Great British Bake Off for the BBC.
Mel and Sue first met while students at the University of Cambridge and were members of the famous Footlights comedy club, subsequently coming to the attention of critics at the Edinburgh Festival in 1993, where their act was short-listed for the Daily Express Best Newcomers Award. Their first presenting roles on television saw them host a lunchtime show on Channel 4 called Light Lunch (and the early evening version, Late Lunch).
In addition to her comedy and presenting duets with Sue, Mel has also made many TV appearances in her own right, on shows such as Comic Relief Does Fame Academy, Making Your Mind Up (with John Barrowman), What Do Kids Know?, Draw It!, Collectaholics, The Gift, Vertigo Road Trip (a show about people with a fear of heights!) and the game show Relatively Clever. She is also a renowned comedy actress and has played roles ranging from appearances in The Vicar of Dibley and Miranda to 'Fairy Liquid' in a production of Jack and the Beanstalk at London's Barbican theatre!
But it is as a presenter of The Great British Bake Off, alongside Sue, that Mel has scored her greatest success to date. Originally screened on BBC2, the show moved to BBC1 for its fifth series and has gone from strength to strength ever since, winning numerous awards along the way. In 2012 and 2013, Mel hosted two special charity series of The Great British Bake Off for Sport Relief and Comic Relief, featuring celebrities who took part for charity. In 2014, she guest hosted an episode of The Great Sport Relief Bake Off and in 2015, one episode of The Great Comic Relief Bake Off.
Mel is the author of two books on pregnancy and motherhood, namely From Here to Maternity and Going Ga-Ga.
Mel is an excellent Awards Host and Presenter and combines thorough professionalism with a light-hearted comedic approach that always leaves audiences with a smile on their faces. Mel was amazing on the day-warm, engaging and funny with the attendees who were delighted to have a chance at a picture and few minutes chatting to her.
I didn't personally spend a huge amount of time with her but Sophie who managed the area she was in passed on some feedback saying what how amazing Mel was and she really brought the whole day together.
So if you wouldn't mind passing on our genuine thanks to Mel.
Thank you for arranging the booking, it worked perfectly for the event.
