Matt Baker is a familiar face on TV, co-presenting BBC1's The One Show Monday to Thursday with Alex Jones and Chris Evans. He has a warm, approachable style that appeals to young and old alike.
Matt started his TV career at the top, becoming a Blue Peter presenter in 1999. His seven and a half years on the show established him as one of the best loved and most versatile presenters in the show's history. As a boy, Matt was a British gymnastic and sports acrobatics champion, and his physical ability allowed him to complete an impressive number of challenges while he was a member of the Blue Peter team. He spent a gruelling week with the Royal Marine Commandos, successfully passing their recruits' course and later completed the Para's P Company selection tests.
Matt won two BAFTA awards for Best Children's Presenter, as well as a Royal Television Society award. He left Blue Peter in 2006 and began presenting a variety of television and radio programmes for the BBC, including Crufts, Around The World In 80 Days and One Man and His Dog. Matt provided BBC commentary for the gymnastics at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, and was also a torch bearer for the Olympic Flame as it was carried into Durham City as part of the flame's tour of Great Britain. His physical fitness was also in evidence when he participated in the eighth series of Strictly Come Dancing.
In addition to The One Show, Matt also currently co-presents Countryfile (BBC1) on Sunday evenings with Julia Bradbury.
