Katherine Jenkins

Katherine Jenkins

  • Superstar Mezzo Soprano
  • The Worldís Most Successful Classical Singer
  • Musical Cabaret with Band or a Piano

Katherine is a popular classical-crossover singer who performs with consummate skill and flair across a spectrum of operatic arias, popular songs, musical theatre and hymns.

After working as a freelance singing teacher, a tour guide on the London Eye and then as a model, she entered a modelling competition and became the Face of Wales 2000. She then decided to follow a musical career. Universal Classics and Jazz heard her demo and offered her a six-album deal, the most lucrative in the UK's classical recording history, reportedly worth £1 million.

Six out of seven of Katherine's studio albums reached number one in the UK classical charts between 2004 and 2008, selling a total of more than 4 million copies. Her first album, appropriately titled Premiere, was the fastest selling album of all time by a Mezzo Soprano, selling well over 30,000 copies in the first week. Her appeal is such that she has already outsold such opera greats as Maria Callas, and she is the only singer in musical history to simultaneously hold the number 1, 2 and 3 position in the classical charts, which she did with her albums Premiere, Second Nature and Living the Dream. Her most recent album, Home Sweet Home, was released in 2014.

On the concert stage, Katherine has performed extensively across the UK and beyond. Highlights include singing at Westminster Cathedral to honour Pope John Paul II's silver jubilee in October 2003, singing in front of the Queen in 2005 at the Royal Variety Performance (and again in 2006 at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance), performing a duet with cellist Julian Lloyd Webber for Children in Need at the Royal Albert Hall in 2009, performing at the opening night gala at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in July 2010 (she is booked to return there in July 2016), and touring with Il Divo for their first and only European and UK tour.

Katherine also appears regularly on television, and even made a cameo appearance in two episodes of Emmerdale!

She was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2014 New Year Honours for services to music and for charitable causes.
