Dr Joseph Stiglitz is one of the leading economists of his generation. In fact, based on academic citations, he is the fourth most influential economist in the world today! A Chief Economist at The World Bank and a Professor at Columbia University, in 2011 he was named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Dr Stiglitz's work focuses on income distribution from a Georgist perspective, covering asset risk management, corporate governance and international trade.

Dr Stiglitz was one of the architects of the longest economic expansion in U.S. history. As a member of the advisory team to the US Government, he played a key role in advising US administrations on policy matters, including the Telecommunications Act of '96, Healthcare Reform, Welfare Reform and the economic implications of National Security Measures.

In 2008, Dr Stiglitz was asked by the President of the UN General Assembly to chair a Commission drafting a report on the reasons for, and solutions to, the World Financial Crisis. In response, the commission produced the highly influential Stiglitz Report.

From 2011 to 2014, Dr Stiglitz was President of the International Economic Association (IEA). He presided over the IEA's triennial world congress held near the Dead Sea in Jordan in 2014.

Dr Stiglitz is the author of numerous books, the latest being The Great Divide: Unequal Societies And What We Can Do About Them (2015), Rewriting The Rules Of The American Economy: An Agenda For Growth And Shared Prosperity (2015), and Creating a Learning Society: A New Approach To Growth Development And Social Progress (2014). Amongst many accolades, he is a recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences (2001) and the John Bates Clark Medal (1979).
