Nicknamed The Whirlwind and known as The People's Champion among snooker fans, Jimmy White is an English professional snooker legend and six times World Championship finalist.
Becoming the youngest-ever winner of the World Amateur Snooker Championship at the age of 18 in 1980, Jimmy established himself as a top professional the following year. After losing 8-10 to eventual champion Steve Davis in the first round of World Championship, he went on to win the first of his professional titles – the Scottish Masters and the Northern Ireland Classic.
Jimmy’s career saw him play in 25 World Championship tournaments between 1981 and 2009, reaching the finals in 1984 and 1990-1994. He won 23 professional titles in total, and is one of only six players to achieve a maximum break of 147 in the World Championship.
Jimmy has appeared on a number of TV programmes, including the snooker-based game show Big Break. More recently, he took part in I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! In addition, Jimmy featured as a cameo of himself in the kung fu comedy film, Legend Of The Dragon, as well as appearing as dodgy snooker club owner Vic Lee in the film Jack Said.
Jimmy has endorsed four computer games: Jimmy White's 'Whirlwind' Snooker, Jimmy White's 2: Cueball, Jimmy White's Cueball World, and Pool Paradise. In June 2007, he was contracted to the online billiard website Play89.
On top of his snooker commitments on both the Exhibition and World Tournament stages, he now lends his hand to both pool and poker, being a regular of the IPT circuit and winning the 2003 Poker Million - The Masters Tournament.
Jimmy’s book Behind The White Ball: My Autobiography was published in 1998.
