  • Known for her BBC sitcom, Miranda
  • Awards Host & Presenter

Miranda is a talented comedian who has become well known through her semi-autobiographical BBC sitcom Miranda. This highly successful TV show - based on an earlier BBC radio version - ran for three series and several Christmas specials from 2009 to 2015, earning its star no less than three Royal Television Society Awards, four British Comedy Awards and four BAFTA nominations.

Before her own BBC TV series was commissioned, Miranda played Barbara in the BBC1 sitcom Not Going Out (with Lee Mack), and also won acclaim for her role in the BBC 2 sci-fi sitcom Hyperdrive (alongside Nick Frost). She has also appeared in Nighty Night, Smack the Pony, Ab Fab, the Vicar of Dibley and Lead Balloon (starring Jack Dee). In 2012, Miranda began appearing in the BBC drama Call the Midwife as Camilla 'Chummy' Fortescue-Cholmondeley-Browne, and in 2015 made her Hollywood debut in Paul Feig's film Spy (as Nancy B. Artingstall). Miranda is also a regular guest on TV panel shows, and occasionally guest hosts on BBC's ever-popular satirical news review Have I Got News For You.

Miranda earned her reputation as a comedian during stand-up and sketch shows at the Edinburgh Festival (she first appeared at Edinburgh in 1994) and on the London fringe. She returned to the stage in 2014 with her first fully-fledged tour, titled My, What I Call, Live Show, performing in arenas in the UK and Ireland.

Miranda has so far written two books - Is It Just Me?, featuring stories, anecdotes and life advice delivered in her own inimitable style, and a follow-up volume entitled Peggy and Me.
