Geoff Holt is a passionate yachtsman who, paralysed from the chest down after an accident, inspired thousands when in 2007 he sailed unassisted 1,500 miles around the coast of Great Britain in a 15 ft trimaran dinghy.
As a teenager, Geoff sailed across the Atlantic Ocean no less than three times, but his hopes, dreams and expectations were almost destroyed while he was still only 18 years old, when in 1984 he dived into the sea and broke his neck. After a year in hospital, and showing characteristic spirit, Geoff trained hard to achieve what he described as his 'Personal Everest', a courageous feat of endurance that resulted in him becoming the first disabled sailor to navigate around Britain single-handed. Having achieved that tremendous goal, Geoff then became the first disabled person to sail unassisted across the Atlantic Ocean! In recognition of his achievements, he received the MBE in the 2010 Birthday Honours.
Back on terra firma, Geoff went on to lead the marketing department of an international firm of chartered accountants for 12 years, before re-training again to become a qualified auctioneer and valuer.
Geoff's story is inspirational and told with humour, thoughtful insight and great images and film footage. In his speeches, he tells audiences how he has faced adversity, challenged limits and continues to motivate others never to give up, to remain positive and to tackle their own 'personal Everest' challenges.
