Andrew "Freddie" Flintoff is a professional English cricketer currently playing for the Australian cricket team Brisbane Heat. A former England Test international, Freddy has also played for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and has even competed as a professional boxer!
Freddy first started playing cricket at Dutton Fawshaw CC, with his first representative cricket played for the Lancashire U11 team. He continued up the ranks within Lancashire, making his first class debut in 1995. Known for hitting the ball harder than any other English cricketer, an ability no doubt helped by his height of 6'4", Freddy was able to bowl accurately at 90 mph. He made his Test Match debut in 1998 against South Africa, and his One Day International debut followed in 1999 (versus Pakistan).
Freddy made his biggest impact for England in the summer of 2005, when he played a major role in regaining the Ashes from Australia. His contributions were legendary, and won him the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. In September 2010, with his status secured as one of the biggest players in the game, Flintoff unfortunately had to retire from cricket due to a recurring knee injury. Since retiring, he has developed a notable career in broadcasting.
In the summer of 2012, Freddie embarked on his greatest challenge to date; training to become a professional heavyweight boxer. This was broadcast in a three-part fly-on-the-wall documentary for Sky One entitled “From Lords to the Ring”, which exposed the gruelling journey Freddie had to face in order to realise his dream. The culmination of this journey was a victory in his debut fight at the Manchester Arena, where he defeated his American opponent in a fiercely contested points victory.
