Dr Hilary Jones qualified from the Royal Free Hospital medical school in 1976 spending two years in postgraduate posts at that hospital in general medicine and surgery, oncology, intensive care and accident and emergency.
Subsequently he has worked in a variety of specialities including obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, health screening and aesthetics.
In 1979 he was the single-handed Doctor on Tristan da Cunha, a British dependency in the South Atlantic and the most isolated inhabited island in the world. Later he was a trouble-shooting medical practitioner in the Shetland Islands working for both the Oil industry and serving the local community in emergencies.
After a stint in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Basingstoke Hospital (now known as Northants Hospital Trust) he joined Church Grange Surgery as a GP and GP educational trainer devoting the next ten years of his professional life to his patients there. In the latter part of the 80's he joined British Medical TV as a Consultant and presenter and then TV AM, at that time the most successful breakfast television programme in the world, out of their studios at Camden Lock in London.
He became a Principal in General Practice and a GP educational trainer in the early 1980's and joined the most successful breakfast TV station in the world at that time, TVAM at Camden Lock. He also became and still remains, a regular columnist for Rupert Murdoch’s Sun Newspaper’s Fabulous Magazine and he is a Guest Presenter on BBC Radio 2’s Steve Wright show – the most listened to radio show in Europe.
Continuing to work as a family GP ever since he has become a well- known, trusted and highly respected medical broadcaster on TV and radio, he contributes to a number of newspapers and magazines and is the author of several books and novels, the latest being ' A Day In Your Life' published by Bantam Press.
He is currently the Health Editor at Good Morning Britain, and appears on The Lorraine Show with his slot The Pulse, where Dr Hilary takes a look at the health topics that have been discussed in the media that week. Dr Hilary is a Patron of or Ambassador to a number of his chosen charities including The Meningitis Research Foundation, Get Ahead Charity, Matt Hampson Foundation, The Lauren Currie Twilight Foundation, Northern Lights Charity, The London Air Ambulance Charity, The Stroke Association, Diabetes UK, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and British Heart Foundation and Pancreatic Action Charity.
