Dr Fons Trompenaars

A world authority on managing cultural diversity for sustained profitability across business platforms, Dr Alfonsus (Fons) Trompenaars is a Dutch-French organisational theorist and management consultant who developed the Trompenaars' Model Of National Culture Differences.

Fons works with major global corporations, assisting them to develop business opportunities through cultural diversity. Though fostering a heterogeneous environment remains a challenge for today's international managers and corporate leaders, Fons uses various proven techniques he has developed to demonstrate how cultural diversity is a critical component of long term success in modern businesses.

Fons began his career at The Royal Dutch Shell Personnel Division, working on job classification and management development. In 1989, together with Charles Hampden-Turner, he founded the consultancy firm Centre For International Business Studies, working for such companies as BP, Philips, IBM, Heineken, AMD, Mars, Motorola, General Motors, Merrill Lynch, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, ABN AMRO, ING, PepsiCo and Honeywell.

Fons was awarded The International Professional Practice Area Research Award by the American Society For Training And Development (ASTD) in 1991. In 1999, Business Magazine ranked him as one of the top five management consultants (along with Michael Porter, Tom Peters and Edward de Bono). He was voted one of the world's top 20 influential thinkers by HR Magazine in 2011 and 2015.

Fons has written a number of influential books, including Riding The Waves Of Culture: Understanding Diversity In Global Business (with Charles Hampden-Turner), Business Across Cultures (with Peter Woolliams), Managing People Across Cultures (with Charles Hampden-Turner) and Cross-Cultural Management Textbook: Lessons From The World's Leading Experts.

Fons is currently a member of the Advisory Board at Webster University in Leiden, The Netherlands, and a Distinguished Advisor at the Centre For TransCultural Studies, Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore.
