In a fickle industry where presenters come and go with regularity, David Jensen has defied the odds by notching up over 40 years as a radio DJ, remaining as one of the most recognisable voices across the airwaves. In his long and distinguished career, he has worked at some of the best known British and European radio stations and on some of the best-loved shows.
Born and raised in Canada, David's career took off when he moved to Europe and joined Radio Luxembourg, acquiring the nickname ‘Kid' because he was the youngest radio presenter in Europe at the time. In 1976, he joined BBC Radio 1 and also started making regular appearances as a presenter on Top of the Pops (BBC1), championing many acts who went on to achieve huge commercial success, notably The Police and Gary Numan. David left the BBC in 1984, joining Capital Radio and staying for more than a decade, becoming the host of the popular Network Chart Show. He was also the unofficial face of pop music at ITV, presenting pop shows such as The Roxy (a rival to Top of the Pops) and various children's programmes, including Worldwise and Popquest.
In the late 1990s, David moved over to London's Heart 106.2 radio station before returning to Capital Radio, this time as the mid-morning presenter on its Gold network. He subsequently joined Smooth Radio in 2011 and is currently working for BBC Surrey and BBC Sussex.
David is closely associated with motor racing, having run his own race-winning team called Kid Jensen Racing (Formula 3000 and Formula Opel). In this capacity, he has appeared on dozens of motor racing programmes, most notably on ITV, Sky Sports and Channel 4. David is also a huge fan of Crystal Palace and is Chairman of the Crystal Palace FC's Vice-President's Club.
In 2010, David became a Freeman of the City of London through his charity work and was also inducted into the UK Radio Hall of Fame.
