Sir Charles Dunstone is the Founder and Chairman of The Carphone Warehouse - one of the most successful companies to emerge from the mobile phone revolution. He is also Chairman of the TalkTalk Group, which is rapidly establishing itself as a leading provider of broadband services and telecommunications in the UK.
The fact that The Carphone Warehouse has grown from a one-man operation to become one of the key players of the mobile communications market in the UK is to a large extent a result of the foresight that Charles has constantly displayed, allied to his formidable business acumen. His accurate insight into how the telecommunications market progressed into the twenty-first century, and how improved communications will continue to drastically impact on business and lifestyle, has helped maintain The Carphone Warehouse at the leading edge of the still burgeoning – but increasingly competitive - mobile communications market. In July 2000, the company was floated on the London Stock Exchange, valued at approximately £1.7 billion. Today, it is the world's largest independent mobile communications retailer. Not bad when one considers that when Charles started selling mobile phones from his flat in London in 1989 all he had was £6,000 of savings to start his business.
In addition to being the Chairman of The Carphone Warehouse and TalkTalk, Charles is also a non-executive director of several large and established businesses, including HBOS (the holding company for Halifax plc and the Bank Of Scotland), the Daily Mail and Group IMD (a leading global distributor of television and radio advertising). From 2005 to 2012, Charles also served as Chairman of Get Connected, a free, confidential national helpline service supporting vulnerable young people under 25.
In 2005, Charles was awarded The Daily Telegraph's Business Person of the Year. He was made a Knight Bachelor in the 2012 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to the mobile communications industry and to charity, and in the 2015 Queen's Birthday Honours, he was appointed Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) for his work with The Prince's Trust.
Charles is an outstanding business speaker, widely respected and admired as one of the UK's most dynamic entrepreneurs. Please contact a Prime Performers Booking Agent on 020 7251 8222 to discuss your requirements, or fill out the booking form on our website.
