Garden Force Duo Bring Gloucester Quays Home And Garden Party To Life

Garden Party

Attendees of this year’s Gloucester Home and Garden Party were treated to some useful advice from two celebrity experts. Charlie Dimmock and Tommy Walsh, who shot to fame in the late 90s thanks to the BBC’s popular Ground Force show, attended the three-day festival and provided live demos to audiences. Charlie was up first on Saturday 30th March, giving instruction in her area of expertise; ponds and garden features. She also gave a talk on how to properly plant up a container, offering a few green-fingered tips and tricks, before entertaining the audience with stories from her fascinating career. DIY expert Tommy then followed, showing the spectators how to create a garden container, before sharing a few hilarious tales of his own. In the second part of his demonstration, the handyman hunk constructed a unique garden feature from left-over materials that many gardeners will have lying around, designed to add a real talking point to any outdoor area. Thankfully the weather stayed relatively dry over the weekend, although it was still a bit nippy, as pointed out by Charlie:

“Easter is the time that everybody starts getting out in the garden, even though it’s freezing cold!”

In addition to receiving advice from our celebrity experts, those attending were able to enjoy over 80 stalls, many of which featured outlet stores offering products, such as garden furniture and tools, with huge reductions off the RRP. There was also plenty of fantastic fresh food, live music and even some celebrity book signings! The event was a huge success, with visitor figures seeing a significant rise from the 60,000 that attended in 2012, as mentioned by Event Co-ordinator Andrew Mitchell-Stead, as he thanked Prime Performers for arranging for Charlie and Tommy to appear:

“Thanks very much for being part of another hugely successful event at Gloucester Quays. We had almost 72,000 people visit us over the Aster Weekend, and an overwhelming amount of congratulations from visitors too…despite the freezing weather!”

It wasn’t only the visitors that attended the festival that thoroughly enjoyed the Gloucester Quays Home and Garden Party, with Tommy explaining how much he relishes meeting the public:

“I particularly enjoy engaging with the public really, and having a bit of a laugh. If they give me a bit of stick I like it, because I can normally give them a bit of stick back!”

It certainly sounds like the festival was a blooming good time and Prime Performers are proud to have played a small part in the success. Hopefully we will be involved again next year and can help the event continue to grow.
