Angela Rippon is an award winning English television newsreader, writer and presenter. She was the first female journalist to read the news regularly on national television, presenting BBC TV's national newscasts from the mid-1970s until the early 1980s.
Angela began her television career at BBC South West in Plymouth in 1966,before becoming a reporter for BBC TV News. She first presented a national news programme on BBC2 in 1974, subsequently moving up to present BBC1's Nine O'Clock News, replacing newsreader Richard Baker.
Angela was famously a guest on the 1976 Morecambe And Wise Christmas Show, emerging from her usual position behind a BBC newsdesk to perform a high-kicking dance routine. Her appearance was so popular she made a cameo appearance in the following year's show. Appropriately enough, Angela later presented the long-running show Come Dancing.
Angela’s other TV credits include Top Gear, Cash In The Attic, Dancing On Ice, Famous, Rich In The Slums, The Antiques Roadshow, Masterteam, Crufts Championship Holiday Hit Squad, Amazing Greys, Bargain Hunt, The One Show and, more recently, How to Stay Young and Rip-off Britain.
In the early 1980s, Angela wrote a series of children's books about a character called Victoria Plum. She went on to write 14 books, including Mark Phillips: The Man And His Horses and Stay Active, Stay Supple, Stay Healthy.
The scope and quality of Angela’s work was recognised by the Royal Television Society when she was entered into their Hall of Fame in 1996. In 2002, she was voted European Woman Of Achievement and was awarded an OBE in recognition of her services to Broadcasting, Charity And The Arts in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List of 2004.
An iconic broadcaster and presenter, Angela Rippon is also a highly skilled Conference Facilitator and popular After Dinner Speaker. She has a wealth of experience hosting events and award ceremonies, both at home and abroad. I just wanted to re-iterate how wonderful Angela was and how she met with the brief perfectly. The interview format was perfect and she was able to assimilate the information received and present it in an interesting, informative and witty manner. The Senior Executive team really enjoyed themselves, and the event, which was one of a series of three, was hailed as the best.
