From the day he was found in a carrier bag on the steps of Guy's Hospital, Andy McNab has lived an extraordinary life. As a teenage delinquent, he kicked against society. As a young soldier he waged war against the IRA in the streets and fields of South Armagh. As a member of 22 SAS he was at the centre of covert operations for nine years – on five continents.
Andy McNab DCM MM joined the army in 1976, served in B squadron 22 SAS for nine years and commanded the legendary Bravo Two Zero patrol in the Gulf War. After a fierce fire fight, three of the eight men were killed; four were captured; one escaped. McNab was held prisoner for six weeks and relentlessly tortured. He was the British Army’s most highly decorated serving soldier when he finally left the SAS in February 1993. He is the author of Bravo Two Zero (Corgi, 1993), the bestselling war memoir of all time, and ten bestselling novels.
Trained as a specialist in counter terrorism, prime target elimination, demolitions, weapons and tactics, covert surveillance and information gathering in hostile environments and VIP protection, McNab worked on cooperative operations with police forces, prison services, anti-drug forces and western backed guerrilla movements as well as on conventional special operations. McNab was technical weapons advisor and trainer on the hit Michael Mann film Heat (1995) and spent five months in Hollywood working closely with Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Val Kilmer.
McNab developed and runs a specialist training course for news crews, journalists and members of non-governmental organisations working in hostile environments.
Renowned for his leadership and motivational skills Andy McNab delivers stories of his career, beginning with his time in the SAS right up to life as a bestselling thriller writer, with great charm and a highly engaging anecdotal style.
