Alistair McGowan is an impressionist and actor, best known for his appearances on BBC1's BAFTA award winning comedy show The Big Impression.
After graduating from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1989, Alistair began working as a stand-up comic in and around London and was soon a regular at the Comedy Store; he also appeared at The Edinburgh Festival and on the 1996 Royal Variety Show. Since then, Alistair has built a successful and versatile career as a comedian and actor on TV, radio and in the theatre.
Initially providing the voices for many of the characters on the ground breaking satirical puppet show Spitting Image, Alistair expanded his repertoire to over one hundred impersonations, the most popular being David Beckham, Gary Lineker, Tony Blair, Prince Charles and Dot Cotton.
As a straight actor, Alistair has given many fine performances. He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company for the Christmas 2006 season, playing Mr Page in Merry Wives. His acting career has also seen him in a number of TV productions, including Mr Kenge in the BBC's adaptation of Charles Dickens's novel Bleak House, and playing the title roles in Mayo (BBC) and The Norris McWhirter Chronicles (Sky 1). Film work includes Driving Aphrodite.
Other TV work includes hosting Have I Got News For You?, appeared as one of the grumpy old men in Grumpy Guides, presented features on The One Show, looking into his ancestry on Who Do You Think You Are?, taking part in Bake Off for Comic Relief (he was crowned Star Baker!), and hosting You Cannot Be Serious! (ITV1), a topical sports entertainment show. He has also been a regular feature on several BBC Radio 4 comedy shows, including: Weekending and The Harpoon, and in addition he co-wrote and starred in four series of The Game’s Up on BBC Radio Five.
Alistair has also worked extensively in the theatre world, appearing in London's West End, in Art, Cabaret, The Mikado and Little Shop of Horrors, for which he received a Laurence Olivier Award nomination.
With a fund of different voices and the comic talent to project them across a wide range of audiences, Alistair is ideal for Awards Hosting, Gala Dinners, Speaking Engagements and Comedy Nights.
