Abandoman is an Award-winning improvisational comedy team comprising Rob Broderick and James Hancox. Described as "improvised Irish hip-hop", their incredible comic performances are nothing short of genius, with no two shows being the same. Winners of numerous awards, the comedy duo's highly creative, hilarious musical songs & sketches appeal to a wide variety of appreciative audiences.
Frontman Rob begins by encouraging audience suggestions on almost any subject, often inviting a couple of hand-picked guests on stage. After a quick consultation with multi-instrumentalist James Hancox, the dynamic musical duo create a funky and hilarious hip-hop track. Whether it’s films, jobs, what's in guests' pockets, something in the news or just favourite sweets, Abandoman can take any combination of themes and weave them into what a Times critic recently described as 'comedy platinum'.
Abandoman have toured with multi-Award-Winning singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, enjoyed a week’s residency on BBC 6Music (with percussionist Camilo Tirado), as well as appearing at major comedy clubs and festivals, including Bestival, Latitude and Glastonbury, not to mention hosting London’s St Patrick’s Day event to over 15,000 revellers in Trafalgar Square. In addition, they were named as "Best Musical Act" of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2014 by the Sunday Times, beating over 2000 acts. Their show "Hot Desk" sold out two years in a row to a capacity audience at one of the Edinburgh Festival’s largest venues, and has since toured all over the world. Overseas, they have performed in Australia (where they were named best comedy and best newcomer at the Adelaide Fringe Festival), Hong Kong, the USA and numerous destinations in Europe.
As well as the improvisational buzz that Abandoman create on stage, the zany duo have also made their presence felt on TV screens, with appearances on such shows as 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown (Channel 4), The Al Porter Show (RTE), The Ray D’Arcy Show (RTE), BBC3′s Live at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, BBC2′s The Stephen K Amos Show, and on Sky Arts. They have also featured on a number of radio shows, such as BBC Radio 1's Fun And Filth Cabaret, alongside Paloma Faith and Nick Grimshaw.
Within the corporate sphere, Abandoman's ability to interact with audiences both large and small is unparalleled, achieving thunderous appreciation through specifically aimed comedy numbers that captivate and enthral. Watch your guests be turned into heroes, and see the astonished faces of their peers as Rob Broderick and James Hancox instantly compose songs and sketches that will have everyone in fits of laughter.
