One of the greatest players in Southampton’s history and almost unique in the modern game. He turned down several big- money moves to help Saints defy the odds by remaining in the top flight throughout his glorious career. Renowned for scoring spectacular goals, he was equally effective in setting up chances for others. He was also deadly from the penalty spot missing only one of 48 kicks. He won the PFA Young Player of the year award in 1990 but bizarrely won only won eight full caps for England despite his remarkable ability. A succession of niggling injuries brought a premature halt to his playing career which saw him hit 161 League goals out of a total of 209 in all competitions. Matt is a very entertaining and funny speaker ideal for corporate and sporting events.
