David Walliams is an award-winning comedian and actor who shot to fame as co-star (and co-writer) with Matt Lucas of the ground-breaking BBC comedy sketch show Little Britain. A regular face on our TV screens, he is currently one of the judges on ITV's flagship Saturday evening extravaganza Britain's Got Talent.
David first met Matt Lucas in the 1990s, while they were performing at the National Youth Theatre. They quickly struck up a friendship and soon began writing sketches together. After several years of trying to establish themselves, they eventually found a winning formula with a collection of cutting edge sketches woven together through a linking theme. The title of this "cockeyed tour of Great Britain via a gallery of eccentric characters" emphasised the show's setting - Little Britain.
Initially broadcast on BBC Radio 4 (2000-2002), Little Britain soon moved to TV, being aired on BBC3 (2003) before moving up to BBC1 (2004-2005). Its massive popularity ultimately led to a sell-out live show, Little Britain Live, which toured the UK in 2006. A number of seasonal and charity specials followed, and a spin-off series was produced in the USA in 2008.
David's TV and film credits also include Shaun of the Dead, Run Fatboy Run, Dr Who, Great Expectations, Mr Stink, Big School, Gangsta Granny, The Boy In The Dress, Partners In Crime, Walliams And Friend, Billionaire Boy, Blankety Blank, Revolting Rhymes, David Walliams Celebrates Dame Shirley Bassey and The Nightly Show. In addition, David presented the Royal Variety Performancein 2016.
In addition, David is a successful author of novels for children. His debut novel, The Boy In The Dress, published by Harper Collins in 2008, was an instant hit, and was followed by Mr Stink, Billionaire Boy, Gangsta Granny, Awful Auntie, Grandpa's Great Escape, The World's Worst Children and The Midnight Gang.
David is well known for his charity work, which has included swimming the English Channel in 2006 and swimming the length of the Thames in 2011. He has won several prestigious awards, including the Mirror's Pride Of Britain Award, as well as The Landmark Achievement Award in 2012.
