David Gunson's hilarious and highly entertaining speeches about his experiences as an RAF Pilot and an Air Traffic Controller are literally atmospheric, with turbulent tales of tense times at 30,000 feet leaving many an audience member with the feeling that their feet might not feel terra firma again!
Yorkshireman David started his working life in a Sheffield steel works, but when he left to join the Royal Air Force his career took off to reach levels far above the industrial smog, flying Shackletons in Coastal Command for twelve years. The civilian life that followed saw him taking a commanding seat as an Air Traffic Controller at Birmingham Airport, talking down aircrafts for twenty three years!
Circumstances led David to subsequently land on the After-dinner circuit, where his smooth approach and impeccable timing have always ensured that everyone onboard enjoys a perfect flight (and sometimes a flight of fancy!), despite sometimes experiencing harrowing howlers along the way. No wonder he has long been an After-dinner Speaker in demand at corporate functions, as well as at sports-themed events. Indeed, his presentations over the years - including the famous "What Goes Up Doesn't Necessarily Come Down" - have led to numerous accolades, including American Express Speaker of the Year.
